Tips for selecting a fencing company

If you are thinking about undergoing a new fence installation or you need to repair your current fence, you are going to have a lot of options on who you can hire.  A lot of times, it’s not easy to distinguish between two contractors.  We thought we would put together a quick little primer on some things you should try to look out for when deciding which fence company to hire for your next project.

Experience Specific To The Fence Type

Some contractors will generally just work with a few different fence types.  They may specialize in wood aluminum fences.  If you are talking to someone who specializes in wood fences, but you want a vinyl fence, then I would be cautious about hiring that contractor.  If you have a good idea what type of fence you are trying to install, check to see that the company you are looking at has experience working specifically with that type of fence.  It shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but it really helps to know that the company has plenty of experience working with the type of fence you want to get installed.

Reviews / Proof

As with any type of project that you would want to undertake, it’s great to know that the company you are taking a look at has worked successfully with many customers in the past.  The best way to know this is the case is by reading reviews online or by seeing pictures of projects completed in the past.  You should be able to go to places like Yelp or Angie’s List to get a good idea of what people think about the company and their work.  If there aren’t any reviews available online, I would be cautious about hiring that company.

Responsiveness

If you reach out a company, you want to see that they get back to you quickly.  That will be a sign of what it is like to work with them in the future.  If you give someone a call or email someone, and they don’t respond to you for days, that is a bad sign and a signal that they might not be the best company to work with.

Transparent Pricing

The fence company you work with should be very transparent about their pricing.  They should give you a free estimate and be able to explain simply why the estimate is what it is.  If they can’t do that, then there is a risk they will overcharge you when they actually complete the project.  You want to make sure the company is as transparent and honest as possible.

If you follow this basic advice, you’ll put yourself in a good position to hire the right contractor and build a great fence that you will love.
